In the 2016 Consumer Reports Online Dating Survey, more than 9,600 people who had used an online dating service in the last two years were asked which one they had joined.
A user name and avatar appears alongside each review (the app also requires users sign up with their phone numbers to prevent people from making duplicate accounts.) Reviews are also not limited to people who have met or gone on dates with each other — friends, coworkers and family members are also able to leave reviews for people they know.
Another interesting touch is that users are unable to browse the app's reviews until they leave a full review (including a photo) for someone they know.
To qualify, an app had to have more than 2,000 reviews across the App Store and the Google Play store.
(Lulu transitioned to a more conventional dating app earlier this year.) But, unlike Lulu's reviews, Stroovy takes reviews from users of all genders.
The app's reviews are also not anonymous, at least not completely.
On Valentine's Day, some singles may be inspired to step up their dating game. Amy Giberson, now 34, was reluctant to try internet dating again but she decided to give it one more shot in 2014. There are a slew of sites and apps to help singles find love and, for the most part, they work, according to Consumer Reports.
She downloaded the Match app and connected with Justin Pounders, also 34, almost immediately. Nearly half, or 44 percent, of those who tried online dating said it led to a serious long-term relationship or marriage, the magazine found.
